Learn To Swim Freestyle Fix: Swim Noodle For Straight Arms

Sometimes one of the hardest things to correct in beginner swimmers is them not lifting their arms out of the water far enough when doing freestyle to clear it. Here is a learn to swim freestyle fix using a cut down swim noodle to help generate straight arms that clear the water.

I have had occasions where no matter what drill I try I just cannot get some swimming arms out of the water. I hit on the idea of using a cut Down (to hand size) noodle may help alleviate this fault and it doesn't do a bad job of forcing high elbows either.

This is a last resort type activity however because as with all physical tools the student has a tendency to revert to old habits the moment they stop using it.

Never-the-less if you get the student to concentrate on how it feels, that is getting the student to "remember how it feels" and then get them to "copy that feeling" when they put aside the noodle piece, it can be quite effective.
